Description

This coin is a United Kingdom issue dating from 2020, with a face value of £5. It is struck in silver with a fineness of 999.9, and weighs 62.42 grams with a diameter of 38.61 millimeters.

The obverse of the coin features the fifth crowned portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, facing right. The Queen wears the State Diadem of George IV. A Latin legend runs around the portrait, stating "ELIZABETH II·D·G·REG·F·D·5 POUNDS·". The signature "J.C" of Jody Clark, the engraver, is visible below the portrait. The full legend means "Elizabeth II Dei Gratia Regina Fidei Defensatrix".

The reverse of the coin depicts the White Horse of Hanover supporting a shield. A Latin legend surrounds the motif, stating "WHITE HORSE OF HANOVER 2oz · FINE SILVER · 999.9 · 2020". The signature "JC" of Jody Clark is also present on this face.

The edge of the coin is reeded. The mint responsible for its manufacture is the Royal Mint, located in Llantrisant, United Kingdom.

This coin is part of the "Queen's Beasts" bullion series, which began in 2016 with the Lion of England. The White Horse of Hanover is the ninth motif in this series. The series features the statues that adorned Westminster Abbey at the Queen's coronation in 1953. The original statues are exhibited at the Canadian Museum of History in Gatineau, while sculpted replicas by James Woodford are located in the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, London.

The reverse motif, created by Jody Clark, has been used in various compositions and denominations of metals, both common and precious.
