This one pound sterling banknote, issued between 1917 and 1923, has distinctive features on both sides.
The obverse of the banknote is mainly brown and green. It features a portrait of King George V positioned on the right. On the left, a representation of Saint George on horseback is visible, slaying a dragon. The banknote contains several inscriptions, including "UNITED KINGDOM OF GREAT BRITAIN AND IRELAND", "CURRENCY NOTES ARE LEGAL TENDER FOR THE PAYMENT OF ANY AMOUNT", "ONE POUND", and "ISSUED BY THE LORDS COMMISSIONERS OF HIS MAJESTY'S TREASURY UNDER THE AUTHORITY OF ACT OF PARLIAMENT IV. & V. GEO.V.ch.XIV.". The face value "£1" is also inscribed.
The reverse of the banknote depicts the Palace of Westminster. This building houses the House of Commons and the House of Lords of the British government. The engraver of this banknote is Edgar Bertram MacKennal.
