Description

This banknote, with a face value of one dollar, was issued by the Straits Settlements. It dates from January 1, 1935, and bears the series J/58.

The obverse of the note features a portrait of King George V, King of England and Emperor of India. The portrait is surrounded by intricate ornamental motifs, including guilloché patterns and decorative borders. The face value, "ONE DOLLAR", is clearly indicated in capital letters. The name of the issuing entity, "GOVERNMENT OF STRAITS SETTLEMENTS", is also featured on the obverse.

The reverse of the note displays similar motifs to the obverse, with guilloché patterns and ornaments. The face value is repeated in several languages, reflecting the linguistic diversity of the Straits Settlements. The coat of arms of the Straits Settlements is also present. The printer's mention, "THOMAS DE LA RUE & COMPANY, LIMITED, LONDON", is printed discreetly.

This banknote is printed on a specific colored paper, serving as a background for the motifs and inscriptions. The dimensions of the note are 121 x 64 mm. It is important to note that this note was issued during a period when the Straits Settlements were a British colony, and King George V was the reigning monarch.

This banknote is a historical testimony to the colonial period of the Straits Settlements and the British presence in the region. It is sought after by banknote collectors for its historical and aesthetic value.
