Remarks:
The 1000 Pesetas banknote issued in Spain in 1979, series A, is a specimen of paper money commemorating Benito Pérez Galdós. This banknote measures 138 mm long and 77 mm wide.
On the front, the printing is done in green, with a serial number in red. The portrait of Benito Pérez Galdós, inspired by a work by Joaquín Sorolla and kept at the Pérez Galdós House-Museum in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, occupies a central place. The coat of arms of Spain is positioned in the upper right of the banknote. A dragon tree (Dracaena draco), an emblematic tree of subtropical regions, is also represented.
The inscriptions in the Latin alphabet include the face value "1000", the name of the issuing institution "BANCO DE ESPAÑA", and the mention "MIL pesetas". The date of issue, "MADRID 23 DE OCTUBRE DE 1979", is clearly indicated. The name "BENITO PEREZ GALDOS" is also present, as are the titles "EL GOBERNADOR", "EL INTERVENTOR" and "EL CAJERO", designating the responsible officials. The mention "FCA NAL DE MONEDA Y TIMBRE" identifies the national printing house. Engravers Daniel Vázquez Diaz and Pablo Sampedro Molero are credited for their artistic work.
The back of the banknote is printed in shades of green and gray. It offers a view of Teide from Las Cañadas in Tenerife, accompanied by a map of the Canary Islands. A handwritten fragment of "Zaragoza", extracted from Galdós' National Episodes, is reproduced, adding a literary dimension to the design of the banknote.
