The 1 Leone banknote, issued by the Bank of Sierra Leone in 2022, is part of a BM commemorative series. This banknote pays tribute to Bai Bureh, an important historical figure of Sierra Leone.
The obverse of the banknote features several distinctive elements. The coat of arms of Sierra Leone is featured, along with traditional sculptures. The portrait of Bai Bureh, facing left, is also highlighted. The inscriptions include the face value "1" repeated, the designation of the issuing institution "Bank of Sierra Leone", and the promise to pay on demand the sum of one Leone. The name and dates of Bai Bureh (1840-1908) are also included.
The reverse of the banknote features a telecommunications satellite dish, symbolizing technological progress. The integrated watermark represents a lion's head, accompanied by the electrotype "1", reinforcing the security of the banknote.
In terms of dimensions, the banknote measures 120 mm in length and 62 mm in width.
This 1 Leone banknote is a means of payment that also has significant historical and cultural value for Sierra Leone, notably thanks to the representation of Bai Bureh and national symbols.
