Common silver coin minted in St. Petersburg in 1904 during the reign of Tsar Nicholas II, a particularly turbulent year for the Russian Empire: the Russo-Japanese conflict had just broken out, signaling the first cracks in an Empire that would collapse thirteen years later. This AR vintage has a mintage of 16,000,010 pieces, reflecting the considerable monetary needs of a still-powerful Empire.
The obverse features the coat of arms of the Russian Empire ? the imperial double-headed eagle ? with the initials AR (Alexander Redko, mint master). The reverse displays the denomination 15 KOPEKS framed by stars, within an oak and laurel wreath topped by the imperial crown, with the date 1904 and the mint mark S.P.B. (St. Petersburg). The edge is reeded.
Medal alignment. Demonetized with the fall of the Russian Empire in 1917.
