Common silver coin struck in Petrograd ? the name given to Saint Petersburg in 1914 at the start of the Great War, in response to anti-German sentiment ? during the reign of Tsar Nicholas II, in one of the most dramatic years of the Russian Empire. In 1915, Russia was at full war against the Central Powers, and this issue with a colossal mintage of 82,500,000 pieces testifies to the considerable monetary needs of an Empire at war.

The obverse features the crowned imperial double-headed eagle with the initials VS ? Victor Smirnov, mint master. The reverse displays the denomination 10 KOPEKS framed by stars, within a vegetal wreath surmounted by an imperial crown, with the date 1915. The edge is reeded.
