This commemorative banknote, issued by the Banca Na?ional? a României, celebrates the total solar eclipse of August 11, 1999 and the entry into the new millennium.
The banknote, with a face value of 2000 lei, was issued in 1999 and is made of polymer. It weighs 1 gram and measures 143 millimeters long by 63 millimeters wide.
The obverse of the banknote features a representation of the solar system. The inscriptions on this side are in Latin and include the mention "BANCA NA?IONAL? A ROMÂNIEI", followed by "ECLIPSA TOTAL? DE SOARE 11 AUGUST 1999". The face value, "2.000 DOU? MII", is also inscribed, accompanied by the mentions "GUVERNATOR" and "CASIER CENTRAL", as well as the year of issue, "1999". The face value "2.000 lei DOU? MII" is repeated.
The reverse of the banknote illustrates the path of the 1999 eclipse crossing Romania. This cartographic representation highlights the trajectory of the eclipse across the country.
