Description

The 1 Cuban Peso banknote, issued in 1960, is a testament to the iconography and values of Cuba at that time. This banknote belongs to the M8 series and features a distinctive black and blue design.

The obverse of the banknote is centered on a portrait of José Martí, an emblematic figure of Cuban independence and a renowned writer. His portrait is presented in an oval frame, adding a classic touch to the design. The face value, ?UN PESO?, is clearly indicated in both letters and numerals. The name of the issuing institution, ?BANCO NACIONAL DE CUBA?, is also present. An important inscription states that the banknote is ?GARANTIZADO INTEGRAMENTE CON EL ORO, CAMBIO EXTRANJERO CONVERTIBLE EN ORO Y TODOS LOS DEMÁS ACTIVOS DEL BANCO NACIONAL DE CUBA?, highlighting the guarantee of its value by the bank's reserves. The mention ?ESTE BILLETE CONSTITUYE UNA OBLIGACIÓN DEL ESTADO CUBANO? reaffirms the commitment of the Cuban State to the value of this banknote.

The reverse of the banknote features the coat of arms of Cuba, also framed in an oval, occupying a central position. The name of the country, ?Cuba?, is inscribed at the top, while the face value is repeated in numerals and letters at both ends of the banknote. The dimensions of the banknote are 155 mm in length and 67 mm in width.

This 1 Peso banknote, with its careful design and detailed inscriptions, offers a glimpse into the symbols and monetary guarantees of Cuba in the early 1960s.
