This 2 euro commemorative coin was issued by the Vatican in 2015 to mark the 8th World Meeting of Families. The event took place in Philadelphia, USA, from September 22 to 27, 2015.
The coin is bimetallic, with a center made of nickel brass, an alloy of copper, zinc and nickel. The outer ring is made of cupronickel, an alloy of nickel and copper. It weighs 8.5 grams and has a diameter of 25.75 millimeters, with a thickness of 2.20 millimeters. The coin is presented in its official blister and is classified UNC (uncirculated).
The mintage of this coin is limited to 110,000 copies in UNC quality and 12,000 copies in BU (Brilliant Uncirculated) quality.
The obverse of the coin, designed by the artist Chiara Principe, depicts two families of different ethnic origins embracing the globe. This representation symbolizes the universality of the papal and Christian message. The central theme of the coin is therefore the family and its importance in the global context.
