Description
This "Enduring Liberty" half dollar is a commemorative circulating coin issued by the United States in 2026, struck at the Denver Mint (mint mark D). It is part of the Semiquincentennial Circulating Coin Program, commemorating the 250th anniversary of American independence (1776?2026). It was released into circulation on January 5, 2026, for one year only, in accordance with the Circulating Collectible Coin Redesign Act of 2020 (Public Law 116-330).
The coin has a round shape, a diameter of 30.61 mm, a thickness of 2.15 mm and a weight of 11.34 g. It is composed of copper clad with cupronickel. The strike is produced with a coin orientation (??), and the edge is reeded. Its face value is 50 cents.
The obverse, designed by Donna Weaver and engraved by John P. McGraw, depicts a close-up of the face of the Statue of Liberty, gazing straight ahead. The inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST and the dual date 1776 ~ 2026 appear on this side.
The reverse, designed by Beth Zaikin and engraved by Darla Jackson, depicts Liberty passing her torch, with its flame reaching toward a new generation. It features the inscriptions E PLURIBUS UNUM, HALF DOLLAR and the motto KNOWLEDGE IS THE ONLY GUARDIAN OF TRUE LIBERTY.
