This 10 hryvnias coin is issued by Ukraine in 2026 as part of the series dedicated to Ukrainian regions, here focusing on the Kharkiv region. Kharkiv, Ukraine's second largest city by population, is a major industrial, scientific and cultural centre of the country. The Kharkiv region, located in north-eastern Ukraine, holds considerable historical and strategic importance, particularly since the outbreak of the Russo-Ukrainian armed conflict in 2022, which gives this issue a special resonance in the contemporary numismatic context.
The coin is struck in nickel-plated steel, an alloy commonly used for circulating coins due to its wear resistance and durability. This material gives the coin a characteristic silvery appearance. It has a diameter of 22 millimetres and a weight of 6.3 grams, standard dimensions for a circulation coin of this type.
The obverse of the coin features the usual elements of the National Bank of Ukraine's regular issues, including the face value of 10 hryvnias and the official inscriptions in Cyrillic script characteristic of Ukrainian issues. The reverse is dedicated to the symbolic representation of the Kharkiv region, likely incorporating emblematic iconographic elements of the territory, such as heraldic symbols or representative monuments of the region.
This issue is part of the numismatic policy of the National Bank of Ukraine, which for several years has been regularly producing commemorative and thematic coins aimed at promoting the regional and national heritage of the country, while ensuring their legal tender status on Ukrainian territory.
