Coin Pièce Niue island 2 dollars Silver Elisabeth II, Reine d'Angleterre et du Commonwealth 2021

This 2 dollar coin was issued in 2021 by Niue Island, a territory associated with New Zealand located in the South Pacific. It is part of a series dedicated to tarot cards, and more specifically depicts The Magician, Major Arcana number I of the traditional tarot. The Magician is a powerful symbolic figure, generally depicted standing before a table upon which rest the four symbols of the minor arcana, holding a wand raised toward the sky as a sign of mastery over the elements and will.

The coin is struck in silver with a purity of 999 thousandths, i.e. fine silver. It weighs 31.1 grams, corresponding to the standard value of one troy ounce. The strike is produced in Proof quality, which implies particular care taken during manufacture: the use of specially polished dies and treated blanks, resulting in a striking contrast between mirror surfaces and matte reliefs.

The obverse of the coin bears the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Queen of England and the Commonwealth, whose portrait traditionally appears on the monetary issues of the territories associated with her, including Niue Island. The face value of 2 dollars is also inscribed.

The reverse is devoted to the artistic representation of The Magician, illustrated in a carefully crafted style characteristic of thematic collector series. This iconography draws directly from the esoteric tradition and the classic representations of the Tarot de Marseille or the Rider-Waite Tarot, essential references in the history of cartomancy.
