The Monnaie de Paris issued this silver 10 euro coin in 2015 as part of a series dedicated to the Little Prince, the iconic literary work by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. This issue belongs to the collection devoted to this emblematic character of French literature, with the famous line « Draw me a sheep » as its theme, a founding passage of the story.
The coin is struck to Belle Épreuve (BE) quality, a refined finish characterised by a sharp contrast between matte reliefs and mirror fields, giving the coin particularly fine legibility and detail precision. It is produced at the Paris Mint, identifiable by the mintmark « A ».
From a technical standpoint, this coin has a diameter of 37 millimetres and a weight of 22.2 grams. It is composed of silver with a fineness of 900 thousandths, i.e. 90% pure silver. The mintage of this issue is limited to 5,000 pieces, making it a coin with restricted distribution.
The face value is 10 euros, in line with French commemorative issues of this format. The visuals featured on the coin illustrate the graphic universe of the Little Prince, in direct reference to Saint-Exupéry's original illustrations, notably the scene of the sheep in its box, the central motif of this particular issue.
This issue is part of the numismatic policy of the Monnaie de Paris, the French institution responsible for striking national coins, whose main production site is located in Pessac. The Paris workshop, designated by the hallmark « A », is historically the official issuing mint for prestigious French commemorative coins.
