The Monnaie de Paris issued this silver 10 euro coin in 2021 to mark the twentieth anniversary of the Euro Starter Kit, a set of coins distributed in late 2001 to familiarise French citizens with the new euro coins, a few weeks before their official entry into circulation.
This coin is struck in Belle Épreuve (BE) quality, a superior striking quality characterised by sharp, contrasting reliefs on a carefully polished field. It is made of 999? silver, meaning silver with a purity of 99.9%, and weighs 22.2 grams. It was struck at the Paris Mint workshop A, identifiable by the corresponding hallmark.
The central theme of this issue is the Semeuse (The Sower), an iconic allegorical figure in French numismatics. This feminine representation, walking against the wind and sowing seeds, has been historically associated with French coins since the late 19th century, largely thanks to the work of engraver Oscar Roty. It appears here as a direct reference to the first French euro coins, on which this effigy was chosen for the 1, 2 and 5 euro cent denominations.
The face value of this coin is 10 euros, issued by the French Republic. Its vintage year is 2021, corresponding to the twentieth anniversary of the introduction of euro coins and banknotes into the daily lives of French citizens.
The mintage is limited to 3,000 pieces, making it a confidential issue intended primarily for collectors. This rarity is part of the editorial policy of the Monnaie de Paris, which regularly produces commemorative series with limited mintages to mark anniversaries or events related to French monetary history.
