Description
The Monnaie de Paris issued this 10 euro silver coin in 2020 with a fineness of 900?, as part of a series dedicated to iconic works of world art. It features a limited mintage of 3,000 pieces, struck in Belle Épreuve (BE) condition, guaranteeing superior surface quality and particularly refined relief. The mint is identified by the mintmark A, corresponding to the Paris mint.
The coin weighs 22.2 grams and measures 22 millimetres in diameter. These relatively compact dimensions give the coin a certain elegance when held, while allowing precise rendering of the graphic details that adorn its faces.
The central motif is inspired by The Great Wave off Kanagawa, a major work by the Japanese painter and engraver Katsushika Hokusai, created between 1830 and 1833. This woodblock print, from the series Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji, is one of the most reproduced and recognised images in the history of art. The depiction of a monumental wave about to crash, with Mount Fuji in the background, is carefully transposed onto the silver blank of the coin. The Belle Épreuve striking technique renders with precision the dynamic curves and characteristic details of Hokusai's original composition.
The face value of 10 euros is inscribed on the coin, which is legal tender in France. It is issued under the authority of the Monnaie de Paris, an institution whose history and expertise in coin minting are recognised internationally. The year of issue, 2020, also appears on the coin, in accordance with French numismatic production standards.
