The Monnaie de Paris issued this silver 10 euro coin in 2011 to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the Starter Kit, the set of euro coins distributed to all French citizens during the transition to the single European currency in January 2002. This anniversary represents a significant historical milestone in the monetary history of contemporary France.

The coin features the iconic figure of La Semeuse (The Sower), a hallmark motif of French numismatics originally conceived by Oscar Roty at the end of the 19th century. This feminine allegory, depicted walking in profile while sowing seeds towards the rising sun, is closely associated with France's republican monetary tradition. Its presence on this issue directly echoes the first French euro coins, which already bore this motif on their reverse.

Struck at the Paris Mint, identifiable by the A hallmark, this coin features a Belle Épreuve (BE) strike quality, representing the highest level of finish, characterised by polished reliefs contrasting with matte backgrounds or vice versa, giving the coin a particularly precise visual definition and exceptional fineness of detail.

From a technical standpoint, the coin is composed of 900? silver, corresponding to an alloy of 90% fine silver. It weighs 22.2 grams with a diameter of 37 millimetres. Its face value is 10 euros, legal tender in France and throughout the eurozone.

The mintage of this issue was limited to 10,000 pieces, making it a coin with restricted distribution within the landscape of French commemorative issues of that period.
