This series issued by France in 2025 brings together three Nordic gold coins paying tribute to women who made their mark on history through their commitments and respective achievements.
The first coin, with a face value of 10 cents, is dedicated to Simone Veil, a French politician and magistrate, Holocaust survivor, whose legislative action profoundly transformed French society, most notably through the law on voluntary termination of pregnancy enacted in 1975. A member of the Académie française and former President of the European Parliament, she remains a central figure in contemporary history.
The second coin, with a face value of 20 cents, depicts Joséphine Baker, a Franco-American artist born in Saint Louis, Missouri, who rose to remarkable fame on the Parisian stage in the 1920s. Actively involved in the French Resistance during the Second World War and a committed civil rights activist, she became in 2021 the sixth woman to enter the Panthéon in Paris, a symbolic consecration of her exceptional life journey.
The third coin, with a face value of 50 cents, is dedicated to Marie Curie, a physicist and chemist of Polish origin who became a naturalised French citizen, the first woman to be awarded a Nobel Prize and the only person to have received two, in two distinct scientific disciplines ? physics in 1903 and chemistry in 1911. Her pioneering work on radioactivity laid fundamental foundations for modern physics and nuclear medicine.
All three coins are struck in Nordic gold, a metal alloy with a characteristic golden hue, widely used in the production of everyday euro coinage. This series forms a coherent collection centred on the representation of women in France's official coinage for the year 2025.
