This 25 CFA franc coin was issued in 2024 under the authority of the Bank of Central African States (BEAC), the monetary institution bringing together the member countries of the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa (CEMAC).
The coin is struck in copper-nickel, an alloy commonly used in numismatics for its corrosion resistance and durability. It has a diameter of 23 millimetres and a weight of 5.35 grams, standard dimensional characteristics for a circulation coin of this face value.
The theme depicted on this coin is particularly significant for the Central African region: it features a farmer and a tractor, a direct illustration of the agricultural sector, a fundamental economic pillar of the BEAC member states. This representation evokes the modernisation of agriculture in Central Africa, with the coexistence of the agricultural worker and the mechanisation symbolised by the tractor.
The CFA franc (Franc of Financial Cooperation in Central Africa) is the official currency of the six CEMAC member states, namely Cameroon, the Central African Republic, the Republic of the Congo, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea and Chad. The 25 franc denomination is one of the smallest face values in the monetary system in force in this zone, intended for low-value everyday transactions.
This 2024 issue is part of the tradition of circulating coins in the BEAC zone, whose iconographic representations regularly refer to the economic, human and natural realities of the territories concerned. The choice of the agricultural theme reflects the importance of the primary sector in the economies of the sub-region.
