The series of 6 Moroccan coins ranging from 1/2 dirham to 10 dirhams, dated 1444-2023, continues the modern monetary system of Morocco, while integrating a characteristic double dating: the Hegirian year (1444) and the Gregorian year (2023). This particularity reflects the cultural identity of the country, at the crossroads of Islamic traditions and the international calendar.
This series covers all the needs of daily circulation, with a coherent structure composed of the following values: 1/2 dirham, 1 dirham, 2 dirhams, 5 dirhams and 10 dirhams. It thus makes it possible to respond both to small transactions and to more substantial payments, while maintaining a clear hierarchy between the different denominations.
Visually, these coins stand out with a strong national identity. They generally feature the portrait of King Mohammed VI, a central figure in the Moroccan state, accompanied by inscriptions in Arabic. This royal presence reinforces the institutional dimension of the currency, while being part of a well-established numismatic tradition in Morocco.
The reverses highlight emblematic elements of the country, such as coats of arms, geometric patterns or architectural symbols inspired by Moroccan heritage. The whole creates an aesthetic that is both sober and refined, where the influence of Islamic art can be felt through the shapes and ornaments.
From a technical point of view, the series presents a diversity of manufactures. Small values are generally struck in simple alloys, robust and suitable for intensive circulation. The higher value coins, such as the 5 and 10 dirhams, are often distinguished by a bimetallic design, offering better security and immediate visual recognition.
Still in circulation today, these coins are the basis of the contemporary Moroccan monetary system. They are widely used in daily life and remain easily accessible, which limits their rarity. However, their numismatic interest lies in their series consistency, their modern minting quality and their faithful representation of the cultural and political identity of Morocco.
Finally, for the collector, this series represents a complete and harmonious set, ideal for illustrating the current Moroccan currency. Specimens in mint condition or in Brilliant Uncirculated quality are particularly sought after, especially when kept in full series.
