The 1000 Tugrik banknote issued by Mongolia in 2020 has a number of distinctive features. It is part of a series identifiable under the designation "AW".
On the obverse, there is a portrait of Chingis Khaan, also known as Temüjin, born around 1162 and died in 1227. A Paiza (Gerege), a tablet symbolizing the authority of Mongolian officials and envoys, is also depicted. This device allowed Mongolian nobles and officials to requisition goods and services from the civilian population. The national coat of arms of Mongolia completes this side of the banknote. The inscriptions are written in Mongolian script (folded) and in Manchu.
The following inscriptions appear on the obverse: "1000", "?????? ?????" (Bank of Mongolia), and "???? ????? ???????" (One Thousand Tugrik).
The reverse of the banknote is printed in several colors, mainly blue and orange. It depicts a yurt (Ger) pulled by oxen. The watermark reproduces the portrait of Chingis Khaan.
The dimensions of the banknote are 150 mm in length and 72 mm in width.
