The coin is bimetallic, with a cupro-nickel alloy center and an aluminum-bronze ring. It weighs 8.5 grams and has a diameter of 25.75 millimeters, with a thickness of 2.2 millimeters.
The obverse of the coin depicts a carabinier in uniform in front of the Prince's Palace of Monaco. At the top, the inscription "MONACO" is present, flanked by the mint mark and the mint master's mark. The lower part of the coin displays the years "1817-2017" and the inscription "CARABINIERS DU PRINCE". The outer ring of the coin features the twelve stars of the European flag.
The reverse of the coin features a map of the European continent superimposed on a dynamic representation of the twelve stars of the European Union. The face value "2 EURO" is also indicated on this side.
The edge of the coin is finely milled and bears the inscription "2 **" repeated six times, alternately upright and inverted. The mint responsible for striking this coin is the Monnaie de Paris. The engraver is Luc Luycx.
