The 5 Francs Liberté banknote, issued in 1942 by the Banque de la Martinique, belongs to the S.32 series. This banknote has distinct characteristics on both the obverse and reverse, reflecting the context of its time and the popular motifs.
On the obverse, the banknote features a black print on a matte red background. A central element of this side is the allegorical female figure positioned on the left. The Latin inscriptions mention "BANQUE DE LA MARTINIQUE" as well as the nominal value "CINQ FRANCS". The printer's mention, "E. A WRIGHT BANK NOTE CO., PHILA.", is also found there.
The reverse of the banknote is printed in blue. The main motif is a portrait of a woman located in the center. The inscriptions, also in Latin, repeat the nominal value "5" twice, as well as the name of the issuing institution "BANQUE DE LA MARTINIQUE". The printer, "E. A WRIGHT BANK NOTE CO., PHILA.", is mentioned again.
This banknote was printed in the United States by E. A. Wright Bank Note Company, a company based in Philadelphia and active from 1872 to 1964. The signatures on the banknote are those of Garcin and Rosemain. The dimensions of the banknote are 133 mm in length and 75 mm in width.
