This banknote, with a face value of 1000 francs, was issued in Martinique in 1960. It is an issue of the Caisse Centrale de la France d'Outre-Mer, on which a red overprint was applied indicating its equivalent value of 10 new francs.
The front of the banknote features a West Indian fisherman, positioned on the left and in the center of the composition. Stylized butterfly motifs adorn both sides of the main scene. The word "Martinique" appears repeatedly in red in the margins. The inscription "CAISSE CENTRALE DE LA FRANCE D'OUTRE-MER" is also present, as well as the face value "MILLE FRANCS". The red overprint "CONTRE-VALEUR DE 10 NOUVEAUX FRANCS" is affixed to the center of the banknote.
On the back, the banknote features a multicolored motif. A woman carrying a basket of bananas is depicted in the center left, framed by stylized butterflies similar to those on the front. The word "Martinique" is repeated in red in the margins. The inscriptions "1000", "CAISSE CENTRALE DE LA FRANCE D'OUTRE-MER" and "MILLE FRANCS" are also found.
This banknote measures 185 mm in length and 102 mm in width. It was printed by the Banque de France. The series to which this banknote belongs is the J.33 series. It should be noted that this banknote is an overprint of the new denomination (10 new francs) on the previous issue of the "old" franc banknote.
