This banknote is a Maltese pound issued in 1949. It belongs to the A.20 series.
On the obverse, the banknote features a portrait of King George VI. The portrait is positioned on the right side of the banknote. The king's name, "George VI", is inscribed above his portrait. The face value, "1", is visible in the upper left and right corners, as well as in the lower central part of the banknote. The text "These notes are legal tender for the payment of any amount" is printed in the upper central part. The signatures of the issuing officials are affixed below this statement. The name of the printer, Bradbury Wilkinson & Co, New Malden, Surrey, England, appears at the bottom of the banknote.
On the reverse, the banknote displays an allegorical representation of Malta. This representation features a draped female figure, symbolizing the island. She holds an olive branch in her right hand, a symbol of peace and prosperity. Beside her, there are elements evoking Malta's history and economy, such as ships and buildings. The face value, "One Pound", is written in full in the upper part of the banknote. At the bottom, the value "1" is framed by ornamental motifs.
The dominant colors of the banknote are blue and brown, with shades of green and orange for the security features. The banknote's watermark represents a lion's head.
