This banknote from Madagascar, with a face value of 5 francs, was issued between 1937 and 1947. It weighs 1 gram and measures 125 mm in length and 80 mm in width. The banknote belongs to the J.2155 series.
The front of the banknote features a portrait of Juno, the Roman goddess, inserted in a large medallion positioned on the left of the vignette. Friezes of stylized fleur-de-lis serve as a frame for the entire motif. The following inscriptions are present in Latin: "BAQUE DE MADAGASCAR" at the top, followed by the value "CINQ FRANCS" in the center, and the names of the artists "L.LECLERC E. DELOCHE" at the bottom. Léon Leclerc is credited as the designer and Ernest Deloche as the engraver.
The back of the banknote features a background of stylized fleur-de-lis. A large red "5" is printed on the left. On the right, Article 139 of the Penal Code is also mentioned in red, potentially indicating the penalties related to counterfeiting banknotes.
