This banknote, with a face value of 1000 francs, was issued in Madagascar between 1964 and 1970. It belongs to the E.4 series.
The front of the banknote features a uniform yellow-orange background, adorned with vanilla flowers distributed throughout the vignette's surface. A Malagasy couple, dressed in "lamba", is depicted in the center left. The inscriptions on this side are "FAMOAHAMBOLAN'NY REPOBLICA MALAGASY", "INSTITUT D'ÉMISSION MALGACHE", "MILLE FRANCS" and "ROAN-JATO ARIARY". The script used is Latin. The engraver of this banknote is Pierrette Lambert.
On the back, we observe, in the center right, two zebus pulling a cart on which the herdsman and two passengers are seated. A mountainous landscape forms the background of this scene. A ravinala is visible on the left. The bilingual Penal Code is inscribed at the bottom left.
The dimensions of the banknote are 150 × 80 mm.
