Description
This type C 6 Shahi is a silver coin struck in Isfahan in 1151 AH, corresponding to the years 1738-1739 of the Christian era. It was issued under the reign of Nader Shah, founder of the Afsharid dynasty and one of the most remarkable military figures in Iranian history.
In 1151 AH (1738-1739), Nader Shah was at the height of his power. That year, he led a decisive campaign against the Mughal Empire, culminating in the capture and sack of Delhi in March 1739, along with the repatriation of an immense plunder, including the famous Peacock Throne and the Koh-i-Noor diamond. On the western front, he continued his rivalry with the Ottoman Empire while maintaining complex diplomatic and strategic relations with the Russian Empire.
Isfahan, the former capital of the Safavid Empire, retained considerable economic, artisanal, and administrative importance at that time, despite the shift of the power centre to Mashhad under Nader Shah's reign. Its mint remained active and continued to strike coins in the name of the Afsharid ruler, reflecting the city's enduring commercial role and its integration into the empire's economic networks.
