The 20,000 rial banknote, issued by the Central Bank of the Islamic Republic of Iran in 2022, features distinctive characteristics on both sides.
On the front, there is a portrait of Ruhollah Khomeini, an emblematic figure of Iran and known as Ayatollah Khomeini, positioned on the left side of the banknote. The decorative motifs display teal and cyan hues, providing a particular visual aesthetic. A windowed security thread is integrated into the banknote. The Persian inscriptions include the designation of the Central Bank of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the face value, "Twenty Thousand Rials."
The reverse of the banknote highlights a poem by Shahriar in Farsi script, testifying to the importance of literature and poetry in Iranian culture. A representation of the Mausoleum of Poets (Maqbarat-o-shoara) located in Tabriz is also present. The inscriptions include excerpts from Shahriar's poem, the name of the Mausoleum of Poets, as well as information in English, including the name of the Central Bank of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the face value, "Twenty Thousand Rials." The scripts used on the banknote include Latin and Perso-Arabic (nastaliq).
The banknote's watermark features a portrait of Ruhollah Musavi Khomeini, founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, as well as the denomination in electrotype. The banknote's dimensions are 156 mm in length and 71 mm in width.
