Superb German commemorative coin struck in 1993 in Stuttgart (mint mark F) to mark the millennium of the city of Potsdam (993?1993), former residence of the kings of Prussia and German emperors, now a UNESCO World Heritage site for its palaces and gardens.

The obverse features the federal eagle with the inscription BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND · 10 DEUTSCHE MARK · 1993 F. The reverse depicts a collection of iconic Potsdam monuments with the inscription 1000 JAHRE POTSDAM · 993?1993. The smooth edge bears the inscription DAS GANZE EILAND MUSS EIN PARADIES WERDEN ? The whole island must become a paradise ? a quote attributed to Frederick II of Prussia evoking his vision for Potsdam.

Engraved by Erich Ott. Medal alignment (??). Demonetized on December 31, 2001, this coin is now exclusively a collector's item.
