Superb German commemorative coin struck in 1992 in Karlsruhe (mint mark G) for the 125th anniversary of the birth of Käthe Kollwitz (1867?1945), a leading figure of German Expressionism, famous for her works denouncing war, poverty, and human suffering.

The obverse features the federal eagle with the inscription BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND · 10 DEUTSCHE MARK · G · 1992. The reverse reproduces a portrait of the artist drawing with her right hand, directly inspired by her 1933 charcoal on brown paper titled Selbstbildnis im Profil nach links, zeichnend (Self-portrait in profile to the left, drawing), with the inscription KÄTHE KOLLWITZ · *1867 · 1945+. The smooth edge bears the inscription ICH WILL WIRKEN IN DIESER ZEIT ? I want to act in these times.

Engraved by Reinhart Heinsdorff. Medal alignment (??). Demonetized on December 31, 2001, this coin is now exclusively a collector's item.
