This banknote, with a face value of 500 francs, was issued in French Polynesia during the period from 1970 to 1992. It belongs to the O.3 series and has distinct visual characteristics on both sides.
On the obverse, the banknote features a multicolored palette. The central element of this side is an outrigger canoe sailing in a coastal landscape typical of the Marquesas Islands, visible in the background. On the right, one can observe the bust of a young Polynesian fisherman. The composition is completed by a set of fish, corals, coral polyps and other elements of the underwater fauna and flora, which frame the image on the left side.
The reverse of the banknote, also multicolored, depicts a bearded Polynesian man originally from the island of Uvea, located in the Loyalty Islands in New Caledonia, placed on the left side. On the right, a rocky landscape evoking Hienghène is represented, accompanied by a wooden sculpture. Palm trees, conches, harpoons, a mangrove branch and various shells frame this image.
This banknote weighs one gram and its dimensions are 150 millimeters in length by 80 millimeters in width.
