The Sower is the emblematic series of the Monnaie de Paris. Focused on historical and numismatic events, it has commemorated the very history of currency since 2014. After two years spent commemorating the anniversary of the introduction of the euro in France, the Sower is renewed and makes a leap in time. This new theme will honor for three years the myths and legends that have built the history of Gold.
In 2024, the Sower continues its temporal journey and tells us the legend of the famous Golden Fleece. Jason, an exiled Greek hero, is offered the chance to regain the throne then usurped by his uncle if he brings him the Golden Fleece, a magical ram's skin. Thanks to his Argonaut companions and the help of the sorceress Medea, he overcame many trials and managed to get his hands on the legendary golden fleece, although guarded by a dragon.
On the reverse, we find a modernized adaptation of the Sower by the engraver Louis-Oscar Roty, showing a heraldic version of the French flag on the drapery of her dress. The mention « RF » is also surrounded by a tangle of hexagons reminiscent of France.
