The 5 Piastres banknote from the Banque de l'Indochine, issued in 1946, features an allegorical female figure on its front. This figure, with oriental features, wears a helmet and holds a spear, surrounded by laurel branches, symbolizing the French Republic in Indochina. The face value "CINQ PIASTRES" and the legal notices regarding penal sanctions for counterfeiting banknotes can be read on the banknote. The signatures of the President and the Deputy Director General of the Banque de l'Indochine are also present. The front is signed by the artists Sébastien Laurent (designer) and Ernest Deloche (engraver).
The back of the banknote depicts an Apsara dancer and a temple with the four faces of Avalokitesvara, an iconic structure of Angkor Wat in Cambodia. The inscription "GIÁY NÀM DÒNG VÀNG" also appears on the back. As on the front, the names of Sébastien Laurent and Ernest Deloche are mentioned for their drawing and engraving work.
The banknote's watermark represents the head of the god Mercury, recognizable by his wings. The banknote was printed by the Banque de France. Its dimensions are 140 mm in length and 91 mm in width. The banknote presented here belongs to the A.1914 series.
