Description

The 10 piastre banknote, issued for French Indochina between 1947 and 1951, belongs to the R series. It represents a face value of 10 piastres.

This banknote has distinct visual characteristics on both sides. The front features a young woman holding a sheaf of rice, an important agricultural symbol in the region. A fisherman is also depicted, highlighting the importance of fishing in the local economy. The inscriptions on the front are written in French, reflecting the French colonial administration of Indochina at that time. The mention "INDO-CHINE" is clearly visible, identifying the territory of issue. The face value, "10 DIX PIASTRES", is also indicated in French.

The back of the banknote features a representation of the Angkor Temple, an iconic site in the region and a major cultural symbol. The inscriptions on this side are in Vietnamese, reflecting the linguistic diversity of French Indochina. The face value is also inscribed in Vietnamese. The series of issue, "Série R", is mentioned on the banknote.

This banknote testifies to the history of French Indochina and its monetary system during the colonial period. It illustrates the important economic activities of the region, such as agriculture and fishing, while highlighting the cultural heritage through the representation of the Angkor Temple.
