This banknote, with a nominal value of 1 piastre, was issued by the Banque de l'Indochine between 1932 and 1949. It is a specimen from the O.9557 series.
On the obverse, the banknote features a woman dressed in traditional clothing. There is also a representation of the tomb of Minh Mang, the second king of the Nguyen dynasty, located in Hue, Vietnam. The face value "1" is printed in red. The inscriptions include the words "BANQUE DE L'INDOCHINE", the value "UNE PIASTRE", and article 139 of the penal code relating to penalties for counterfeiting banknotes. The names of the artists involved, "SÉB. LAURENT FEC." and "HOURRIEZ SC.", also appear. Georges Hourriez is identified as the engraver and Sébastien Laurent as the designer.
The reverse of the banknote depicts a young peasant wearing a Vietnamese hat, carrying a yoke with baskets of coconuts. Buffaloes are visible in the background. Texts in Chinese, Lao, Vietnamese, and Thai complete the visual.
