This one piastre banknote, issued in 1950 by the Banque de l'Indochine, features a figurative scene and textual elements in French on its front. A woman in traditional Indochinese dress is depicted on the left of the banknote. On the right, a representation of the tomb of Minh Mang, second king of the Nguyen dynasty, located in Hue, Vietnam, is visible. The face value, "1", is printed in red. The designation of the issuing institution, "BANQUE DE L'INDOCHINE", appears at the top of the banknote. The face value, "UNE PIASTRE", is also mentioned. A legal text, relating to criminal penalties in case of counterfeiting, is included: "L'ART. 139 DU CODE PENAL PUNIT DES TRAVAUX FORCES CEUX QUI AURONT CONTREFAIT OU FALSIFIE LES BILLETS DE BANQUE AUTORISEES PAR LA LOI". The names of the engravers and designers, SÉB. LAURENT FEC. and HOURRIEZ SC., are also present.
The back of the banknote depicts a young peasant wearing a traditional Vietnamese hat. He carries a yoke with baskets of coconuts, while buffaloes are shown in the background. Texts in Chinese, Lao, Vietnamese and Thai complete the iconography. The names of the engravers and designers, SÉB. LAURENT FEC. and HOURRIEZ SC., are mentioned again. The inscription "GIÁY MÒT DÒNG VÀNG" is also present.
The watermark of this banknote represents a winged Mercury head. The dimensions of the banknote are 127 × 80 mm.
