This bronze plaque-medal is a uniface type. It is the work of the painter and sculptor Auguste Maillard (1864-1944), and dates from the late 19th or early 20th century. The plaque measures 70 mm in height and 56 mm in width.
The obverse of the plaque features a scene entitled "CONTEMPLATION". It depicts a young man standing next to a woman sitting in front of a balcony. The woman is holding an open book on her lap. In the background, a landscape unfolds with a rising sun. The artist's signature, "AUG. Maillard", is affixed to this face.
The reverse of the plaque is marked with numbers arranged at the four corners as well as in the center. These numbers could correspond to workshop marks, serial numbers, or inventory numbers.
The style of the plaque is in the Art Nouveau movement, particularly noticeable in the composition of the scene, the representation of the characters, and the treatment of the landscape.
