The bronze commemorative plaque of the 1900 Banquet of French Mayors, created by Vernon, is a medal that testifies to a significant event in French republican history. Its dimensions are 64 mm in height and 45 mm in width.
The obverse of the medal features an allegorical composition. Two female figures dominate the scene, one of them embodying the French Republic, recognizable by its flag. They raise their arms in a gesture of toast, addressed to a seated assembly, visible in the background, suggesting an important gathering. The artist's signature, F. VERNON, is discreetly affixed to this face.
The reverse of the medal is rich in inscriptions. The mention "BANQUET DES TUILERIES" opens the legend, followed by "OFFERT AUX MAIRES DE FRANCE", contextualizing the commemorated event. The names of important political figures of the time, "M.R E. LOUBET, PRES.T DE LA REPUBLIQUE" and "WALDECK ROUSSEAU, PRES.T DU CONSEIL", are also inscribed, highlighting the government's involvement in the organization of this banquet. The date and place, "PARIS / 22 SEPT 1900", allow us to precisely locate the event in time and space. Below, we can read "A. Robineau / Marans".
A fasces surmounted by a flag is positioned to the left of a cartouche, which is adorned with a two-line legend. The whole rests on oak and laurel branches, traditional symbols of strength and glory. The described copy is attributed to A. Robineau, mayor of Marans, adding a personal dimension to this commemorative object.
