This bronze medal, dated 1920, commemorates the election of Paul Deschanel to the National Assembly. It was created by the engraver Léon-Ernest Drivier (1878-1951), also known under the signature L.D. The obverse of the medal features a bust of Paul Deschanel, facing left and wearing a coat. The engraver's signature, "L. DRIVIER", is visible on this face.
The obverse of the medal bears the inscription "PAUL DESCHANEL PRÉSIDENT DE LA RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE", arranged around the bust of the president. The reverse of the medal presents an allegorical and textual composition. A draped woman in antique style is depicted, accompanied by a fasces of lictors on the right and an oak branch at the exergue. The signature "L.D." is also present on this face.
The inscription "ELU PAR / L?ASSEMBLEE / NATIONALE / LE XVII / JANVIER / MCMXX" is engraved on six lines, commemorating the date of Paul Deschanel's election by the National Assembly. Paul Deschanel was elected President of the Republic on January 17, 1920. He resigned a few months later.
