This French commemorative coin, minted in 2001, marks the end of the franc era before the introduction of the euro. It is presented in a BU (Brilliant Uncirculated) case, guaranteeing its conservation quality.
The coin is struck in silver and has a face value of one franc. It weighs 17.8 grams and its diameter is 33 millimeters. The design of this coin was created by Philippe Starck.
The obverse of the coin features a wavy shape, meant to evoke a handkerchief waved in farewell. The engraving "un ultime franc" (a final franc) appears in full. The name of the engraver, Philippe Starck, is also present on this side.
On the reverse, we find the stylized face value "1", also designed by Philippe Starck.
The edge of the coin is smooth and bears incuse inscriptions. It includes the cornucopia, symbol of the Paris Mint engraving workshop, as well as the year "2001". Also inscribed are: "RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE, STARCK, LIBERTÉ, ÉGALITÉ, FRATERNITÉ". A horseshoe, different from the general engraver Gérard Bucquoy, is also visible on the edge.
The edge was engraved by Jean Luc Maréchal.
