Double Louis d'Or, minted in 1790 in Metz. The coin is associated with the reign of Louis XVI.
The coin is made of gold. It weighs 15.2 grams and its diameter is 28 millimeters.
On the obverse of the coin, we observe the portrait of Louis XVI, depicted with a bare head. The legend around the portrait indicates the name of the king and his titles. The portrait is finely detailed, reflecting the characteristic features of Louis XVI.
The reverse of the coin presents the royal coat of arms of France, composed of a crowned shield surrounded by laurel branches. The motto and the face value of the coin are also inscribed. The mint, identified by the letters AA, indicates that it was produced in Metz.
The Double Louis d'Or of Louis XVI, minted in Metz in 1790, testifies to the monetary system in force under the Ancien Régime, shortly before the upheavals of the French Revolution. This coin offers a glimpse of the royal iconography and symbols of power used at that time.
