The commemorative medal of the Centenary of the Chamber of Deputies, struck in bronze by Max Bourgeois, pays tribute to this historical event and the Palais Bourbon.
The obverse of the medal presents a scene where men are gathered before a figure taking an oath. The inscription "LIBERTE LIBERTE CHERIE COMBATS AVEC TES DÉFENSEURS" is inscribed in an arc above the scene. The exergue specifies the commemorated event: "II PLUVIOSE AN VI / INAUGURATION DU palais NATIONAL / DU / CONSEIL DES CINCENTS". The signature "AUNAY MAX. BOURGEOIS" also appears on this side.
The reverse of the medal features a nine-line legend: "XXI JANVIER / MDCCCLXXXXVIII / CENTENAIRE / DE LA / CHAMBRE / DES / DÉPUTÉS / AU / palais bourbon // GERAULT-RICHARD / DEPUTE". The Palais Bourbon is represented on the left. An inscribed cartouche is surrounded by a laurel branch and an oak branch, surmounted by a revolutionary cockade placed on a fasces. A small medallion with the effigy of Marianne, bearing the inscription "REPUBLIQUE - FRANCAISE", is visible on the left. The signature "L. MB" is also present.
This medal was awarded to Georges Berry, deputy of the Seine from 1893 to 1915. Sitting on the right, he was known as a former monarchist who rallied to the Republic. His interest was particularly focused on social issues. As a sometimes virulent speaker, he was sanctioned by censorship in 1900. He was registered with the parliamentary group of National Republicans.
