The Blue and Pink 500 Francs banknote, dated May 13, 1937, is one of the last issues of this historic type from the Banque de France, in circulation since the late 19th century. At that time, it already represented an old denomination, but still used in exchanges, attesting to the exceptional longevity of this model.
Large format, approximately 140 × 242 mm, this paper banknote is distinguished by its refined aesthetic combining blue and pink hues, as well as by a composition rich in details. It is the result of the work of renowned artists, including Georges Duval and Daniel Dupuis, associated with several engravers from the Banque de France.
The obverse features two medallions depicting Hercules and Mercury, symbolizing strength and commerce respectively, framed by decorative and plant motifs. The reverse depicts Hercules and Ceres, surrounded by childish figures, in a composition evoking abundance, production and economic balance.
Equipped with a watermark bearing the words ?500 F? and ?Banque de France?, this banknote meets the security standards of its time. It was withdrawn from circulation in 1943 and then demonetized on June 4, 1945, marking the end of this emblematic type.
