The Blue and Pink 500 Francs banknote, dated March 9, 1933, belongs to one of the last issues of this emblematic type from the Banque de France, whose origin dates back to the late 19th century. Still in circulation in the 1930s, this banknote illustrates the continuity of a classic artistic style, rich in symbols and details.
Large in size, approximately 140 × 242 mm, this paper banknote is distinguished by its characteristic shades of blue and pink, as well as by an elegant and balanced composition. It is the result of the work of renowned artists such as Georges Duval and Daniel Dupuis for the design, associated with several engravers from the Banque de France.
The obverse features medallions depicting Hercules and Mercury, symbols of strength and commerce, surrounded by decorative motifs and plant elements. This iconography highlights traditional economic foundations. The reverse combines Hercules and Ceres, accompanied by childlike figures, in a composition evoking abundance and prosperity.
This banknote has a watermark indicating ?500 F? and ?Banque de France?, a typical security feature of this series. Issued during the last years of use of this type, it was withdrawn from circulation in 1943 and then demonetized on June 4, 1945.
Today, the March 9, 1933 banknote is appreciated by collectors for its classic aesthetic.
