Description

This French banknote has a face value of 50 francs. It was issued on October 6, 1932, and bears the series M.11189. The issuing country is France.

The front of the banknote features an elaborate composition. In the center, an allegorical female figure, draped and seated, symbolizes the French Republic. She holds an olive branch in her right hand, a symbol of peace and prosperity. Beside her, a child, also draped, represents the future and hope. The background consists of classical architectural elements, evoking the grandeur and stability of the nation. The face value, "50", is visible at the top left and right, while the word "Francs" appears in full letters at the bottom center. The signature of the General Cashier and that of the General Secretary are affixed at the bottom right.

The back of the banknote takes up the theme of the republican allegory, but in a different composition. The female figure is represented standing, holding a flaming torch in her right hand, a symbol of light and progress. Beside her, a man, symbolizing work and industry, holds a cogwheel. The background is adorned with plant motifs and cornucopias, evoking the wealth and fertility of the country. The face value, "50", is also present at the top left and right, while the word "Francs" appears in full letters at the bottom center. The name of the artist, Luc Olivier Merson, is discreetly mentioned at the bottom left.

This 50-franc banknote, issued in 1932, bears witness to the aesthetics and symbols of the French Third Republic. It constitutes a precious testimony of the monetary and artistic history of that era.
