Superb 50 Francs silver coin minted in Paris in 1977, featuring the famous Hercules design created by engraver Augustin Dupré in the late 18th century and reinterpreted for Fifth Republic issues. Issued during a period of high inflation, this coin is one of the last major French circulating coins to contain a significant amount of fine silver.
The obverse features the iconic Hercules: Union and Strength scene: the mythological hero unites the allegorical figures of Liberty and Equality with his arms, a powerful symbol of national unity and the founding values of the Republic. The motto LIBERTÉ ÉGALITÉ FRATERNITÉ surrounds the design. The reverse adopts a classic layout with the face value 50 FRANCS in the center, framed by an oak and laurel wreath, the inscription RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE, and the year 1977. The edge inscription features the motto LIBERTÉ ÉGALITÉ FRATERNITÉ.
Minted in 900? silver, this coin weighs 30 grams with an imposing diameter of 41 mm, and contains approximately 27 grams of pure silver ? giving it significant intrinsic value at the current silver price. Demonetized in 1980, it is now exclusively a collector's item and a precious metal investment.
Condition: EF (Extremely Fine) ? coin with little circulation, very sharp details, slight friction on the reliefs.
