This 50 centime note was issued by the Rouen Chamber of Commerce in 1918 as a replacement issue. The text is written in Latin.
On the front of the note, you can read "VILLE DE ROUEN" and "CHAMBRE DE COMMERCE DE ROUEN", indicating the issuing entity and the city concerned. The year of issue, 1918, is clearly mentioned, as well as the designation "Emission de remplacement" (Replacement Issue). The face value of "50 CENTIMES" is also inscribed. The signatures of the Mayor and the President of the Chamber of Commerce are also present. A serial number, here "n° 085.270", is printed on the note. The mention "IMP. RICHARD, PARIS" indicates the printer responsible for the production of the note.
The back of the note bears the inscription "Le Trésor a reçu la contre-valeur..." (The Treasury has received the equivalent value...), followed by a reference to the deliberations of the Municipal Council and the Chamber of Commerce of August 17, 1914. This inscription suggests that the value of the note is guaranteed by the Treasury and that it is based on a joint decision of the local authorities.
The watermark of the note depicts bees, a motif that may have a symbolic meaning for the Chamber of Commerce or the city of Rouen. The printer, Imprimerie Richard, based in Paris, France, is also mentioned. The dimensions of the note are 118 mm in length and 79 mm in width.
