This 50 centime banknote was issued by the Chamber of Commerce of Montluçon-Gannat in 1914. It is an emergency issue, used in France during the First World War to compensate for the lack of small change.
The banknote is printed in dark blue on a light blue background, with a margin on the left side. The absence of a watermark is a notable feature of this type of banknote. Two handwritten signatures, identified as "The Treasurer" and "The President", appear on the banknote, attesting to its authenticity and issuance by the competent authorities. The face value of 50 centimes is clearly indicated, as is the series "A" and the identification number of the banknote, all printed in black.
A purple stamp is affixed in the margin, probably serving as an additional authentication mark or control indication. The original issue date has been modified in purple ink to indicate "October 5, 1915", suggesting an extension of validity or a reissuance of the banknote. The names of the printers, "HERBIN & BOUCHÉ", are mentioned at the bottom left of the banknote, while the city of "MONTLUÇON" is inscribed at the bottom right.
The back of the banknote is printed in blue on a white background, probably incorporating graphic or textual elements related to the issue. The date modification, also visible on the back, confirms the prolonged use of this banknote during a period of monetary shortage.
