This 50 centime note was issued by the Marseille Chamber of Commerce on August 12, 1914. It is an emergency issue, released in a context of a shortage of fractional currency during the First World War.
The note is printed in blue. On the front, you can read the face value "50 Centimes" as well as the mention "Chambre de Commerce de Marseille". The date of issue, "12-08-1914", is also present. A handwritten signature authenticates the note. The name of Valère Bernard appears at the bottom left.
The back of the note repeats the face value and the name of the issuing institution. Three handwritten signatures, the serial number of the note, printed in black, also appear. The mention "Imp. Moullot MARSEILLE" is printed in the bottom right, indicating the printer responsible for the manufacture of the note.
This note does not have a watermark. It is important to note that this type of note was issued locally and was legal tender only in the Marseille region (Bouches-du-Rhône).
